Big Dipper

The larger of the two domes, and the one that sleeps ten. Three king bedrooms, a loft with two more queens, a wood stove in the middle of the floor, and one entire wall made of triangles of glass.

What it’s like

A round room with the lake in it.

The lake-facing third of the dome is glazed, and because it’s a dome, the glass leans out over you as well as in front of you. The two sofas and the wood stove all face it. At sunrise the whole room goes orange and nobody talks for a while.

The kitchen sits under a timber mezzanine with a proper range, a full-size fridge and a dishwasher. There’s a laundry. Three bedrooms are tucked around the back of the dome where it’s dark and cool, each with a king bed, and the loft above the kitchen holds two queens plus the arcade cabinets. Ten people fit without anyone drawing the short straw.

One of the bathrooms is papered in fireflies on near-black, which reads as a design choice until your first night here, when the field outside does the same thing.

Included with your stay

The grounds are shared, and that’s the point.

The beach, the dock, the mini golf course and the play area sit between the two domes and belong to whoever is staying.

The white dome across the field in the photograph is the Little Dipper. Booking the Big Dipper gets you the Big Dipper and a share of everything between them. Book both and the peninsula is yours.
